My mom always said that the very best gift a child can give their mother is one that really comes from the heart. I can remember making homemade gifts and cards for my mom on Mother’s Day when I was little. One year, my dad had us make a beaded necklace for mom so that my little brother and sister could join in. We made the beads out of dough (they were actually more like huge balls!) and painted them in an array of colors, adding glitter, and stringing them on a necklace made with holiday ribbon. We were very proud of the results and my mom was elated that we worked so hard together to create such a memorable gift. She wore the necklace to work for an entire week, until it fell off (probably from being too heavy) and broke into pieces. That homemade little gift that meant so much to all of us reminds me of why I love giving gifts, no matter how large or small.

Here is an assortment of gift ideas, some traditional, and some a little out of the ordinary, to help celebrate our Moms and all the amazing women in our lives that make us feel so special.

Traditional:

A fragrant candle, perfume, a makeup bag, a bouquet of flowers, delicious cookies, a nice dress , a new bag, sunglasses, a delicate scarf, a sweet necklace, a trinket box, a great casserole, gourmet coffee, a cute tea pot and herbal tea, a mani/pedi, dinner out + a movie, or concert tickets.

Not so Traditional:

A custom illustration or painting, a cooking class, a pampering spa day, a weekend getaway, a flower garden, an herb and flower wreath, complete car detailing, tickets to a fashion show + lunch, a chef cooked meal at home, a housekeeper for a week, a picnic basket filled with goodies, ECHO by Amazon, a hot air balloon ride, skydiving, scuba diving lessons, a day of fishing/hiking/biking, outdoor gear, or a unique REI class.
