As much as we feel at home in Charleston, going back to California, where Thomas and I are from, is always incredibly special. Now that the holidays are upon us, we’re gladly jumping at any and every opportunity to head west, and recently had the chance to spend a few days in San Francisco. We lived there right after college and spent our first few years of marriage in the city. As a result, every corner of San Francisco seems to bring on a flood of sweet memories and “hey, remember when?” conversations, whether we’re walking down the streets where we photographed early Gal Meets Glam blog photos, driving past our old apartment, or heading to some of our favorite restaurants and shops to see what has changed since we left.
One thing that certainly hasn’t changed in San Francisco is the weather. I credit everything I know about layering to my years in the city–the temperature can fluctuate so much in a single day, I remember rarely leaving the house without an extra layer or two on hand. One of my all-time favorite sources of clothing for all kinds of weather is Barbour, and on this chilly day, both Thomas and I bundled up in our Barbour pieces to visit one of our favorite spots in the city: the Ferry Building (which is always a stop for us on every visit).
We used to love starting our Saturday mornings bright and early by heading to the Ferry Building farmer’s market. It stretches all the way around the building, farm stands overflowing with fresh, colorful fruits, vegetables, and flowers (my favorite). Bundled up for the morning, I wore a cozy Barbour crewneck sweater and layered their Beadnell Jacket in the prettiest shade of burgundy over it. I love this color combination for December–it’s seasonal, without being overly festive for a casual morning. I’ve had a Beadnell Jacket in a green color for years and wear it often, but it has held up beautifully, so I was excited to add another one to my collection. I know I’ll be wearing it for years to come as well!
I threw on a plaid scarf at the last minute and was so glad I did; once again, it seems you can never go wrong with an extra layer when in San Francisco. No matter the weather, I always feel colder than Thomas does–he was comfortable all morning in a crisp Barbour sport shirt with the Abaft Quilted Jacket over it. We were both so impressed by the details on this jacket (like a wool pocket and corduroy collar), and the navy color is timeless.
Along with the outdoor market, we have so many favorite spots inside the building. A few of our old standbys include ACME Bakery, Cowgirl Creamery, Stonehouse California Olive Oil, Miette, Blue Bottle, and Frog Hollow Farm. We already can’t wait to go back next time we’re in town to revisit more of them!
Thank you to Barbour for sponsoring this post.
