Today’s post wraps up our wonderful 5 days we spent in Tuscany. Yesterday, we covered our first 3 days in Tuscany, and today’s post is filled with images from the second half. If you remember from the last post, one of the reasons why we stayed at Borgo Pignano was the long list of activities that they had to offer. While the mountain biking wasn’t exactly what I had in mind (I was dreaming of flat roads with beautiful views, their “easiest” route was the hardest bicycle riding we’d ever done), the other activities were lovely. One of the highlights of our trip was definitely the pasta-making class. While we generally don’t prefer group activities, the pasta-making class was with two other couples which made it really fun and interactive. We got to make all different types of fresh pasta including fettuccine, ravioli, and tortellini, and then the chef took our pasta and had the kitchen prepare it. It was so good and we ate way too much and spent the following hours recovering from a pasta food coma.

Our final full day in Tuscany was highlighted by a pottery class that we took in a town called Colle di Val d’Elsa. Prior to the class we had some time to kill, which we decided to split between lounging at the pool and exploring a new town. We researched and found a small, walled town called Monteriggioni that wasn’t too far from where we were headed. Once there, we walked around the town, found a cute shop with plenty of ceramics we wish we could bring home and stopped for a gelato to cool us down. We were about out of time and didn’t want to be late for our pottery class.

We were excited and a little bit nervous for this class. Thomas has an obsession with pottery, he’s even gone as far as requesting that we turn our shed into a pottery studio, despite never having even tried it. So we thought, what better place to take a pottery class than Italy?! While we really loved the experience, we had to try to get by with Google Translate and talking with our hands because we don’t speak Italian and our teacher didn’t speak English. We got by alright on the first two methods, but when we get to the wheel, we were wheely bad (Thomas told me to write that- ha!). It’s mesmerizing to watch experts making things on a pottery wheel as they make it look easy. Spoiler alert, it’s not easy at all. No amount of translation could have helped us. While we won’t be building a pottery studio anytime soon, we still had a great time and I thought parts of the class were very therapeutic. For those that are interested in the details on the class you can visit their website, Ceramiche Manufactum. The couple that runs the class is very sweet!

After the class we took the long way back to Borgo Pignano stopping a few times for beautiful scenes that were just too stunning to pass up. Finally, we made it back to the hotel and had one last dinner before we were off to the Amalfi Coast the next morning.
