Thomas and I have been planning as many weekend getaways as possible this Summer, exploring new venues in and around California, as well as revisiting old favorites. These mini-vacations are short but sweet, and provide much needed inspiration. Since we travel so much, I don’t really have that much time to overthink what I’m packing, many come up too last minute. My solution is having a list of weekend getaway packing tips that can be used time and time again!
Tip #1 – Select the right bag.
Packing with the right bag or overnight luggage that can easily fit the items you’re taking is essential. You may want to include a backpack for day outings and I also recommend taking one purse that goes with everything. I love my Steamline luggage, it’s not only the cutest luggage around but it holds a ton of stuff! I use mine for weekend trips or as my carry-on bag for longer trips.Â
Tip #2 – Narrow the shoe list down to three pairs.
If you are a shoe fanatic like me, then you probably try to throw in at least one pair of shoes for every outfit you think you will wear. Instead, try to find three pairs that will go with everything (I usually stick to neutral tones).Â
A pair of tennis shoes like these or these for sports, hiking and working out.
A pair of neutral wedges or heels for nice evening dinners and dressier plans.
A pair of ballet flats, espadrilles or comfortable sandals for sightseeing or when you want to look nice, but will be on your feet most of the day.
Tip #3 – Bring two toiletry bags.
One bag for skin, hair and dental care.
One bag for cosmetics.
Tip #4 – Pack one pair of pajamas.
Tip #5 – Bring two – three tops that are interchangeable with three bottoms.
One light pullover or cardigan
Tip #6 – Always pack a light jacket, just in case.
Tip #7 – Always bring a dress.
Pack one that can be dressed up or down with flats, wedges or heels.
Tip #8 – Pack two – three interchangeable bottoms.
One pair of denim or white jeans OR
One pair of cropped pants OR
One skirt
(*substitute any one for a pair of shorts)
Tip #9 – Always bring a swimsuit, just in case there’s a jacuzzi and/or swimming pool, and a swim suit cover-up. Work-out clothes are optional.
Tip #10 – Limit accessories to one scarf, one hat, and a necklace and/or earrings that go with everything listed above.
