As we approach Father’s Day (June 19th), I’m reminded of the father-like men in my life who have inspired me in positive and meaningful ways. My Grandfather with his incredible wisdom and insight. and my Dad with his passion for sharing random acts of kindness with strangers.
One of my dad’s favorite sayings (and he has a lot of them;) is that “you can tell a person’s character by how they treat those who can do nothing for them.” My dad has always taken this message seriously and honestly enjoys sharing random acts of kindness with others, often people he hardly knows. He taught me that being a kind and caring person helps make a difference in the lives of others, even if there’s no acknowledgement or thank you in return.
So this coming week will you join me in doing something nice for someone else without expecting anything in return? “Something” can be anything – cook a meal, help a neighbor clean-up their yard, walk a friend’s dog, pay for a stranger’s coffee, let someone go in front of you in line, give away a bouquet of flowers, whatever opportunity comes to you. No act is too big or too small. Even a smile and friendly “hello” can make someone’s day. Remember that sometimes the simplest act of kindness inspires the greatest change.
