When we were designing our May Gal Meets Glam Collection dresses, I knew it would already feel like summer in Charleston by the time they launched. Summers here are hot, humid, and long, with sunny days and balmy evenings starting weeks before Memorial Day and lasting well into October. The plus side of long summers is the extended period of time when I can slip into a dress and head right out the door. As the weather began to warm up earlier this year, I could hardly wait to start releasing our summer sundresses, like the Hattie dress. I can’t imagine a more quintessentially summer-ready dress, from its breezy linen fabric, to its cheery stripes, to the color palette that feels beachy and classic at the same time.
Even though being in my third trimester during the height of Charleston summer heat may feel a little rough on some days, I’m determined to make the most of it. Part of that means keeping myself as comfortable as I can, opting for the most lightweight fabrics and flowy silhouettes. Linen has been one of my go-to fabrics since we moved here, so I’m especially loving all of the beautiful linen pieces we have available now (like the Cassie dress, Bailey jumpsuit, and Scout two-piece set), with more coming in June! I sized up in the Hattie dress for my bump, and especially since the straps tie at the top, it was easy to adjust them so the dress fits perfectly. Those self-tie straps, plus an elastic waistband in the back of the dress and midi length, make it an ideal transitional dress to wear before, during, and after pregnancy!
