Most women envision hair accessories as hair ties used to keep their hair out of the way or neatly and simply pulled back. Or as headbands, barrettes and bows they once wore as young girls. But there are so many ‘grown-up’ versions that create polished, sophisticated, romantic and fun looks. The trick is to pair the right hair accessory with the right hairstyle. I’ve always loved adding hair bows, ribbons, scarves, clips and barrettes to a low ponytail, classic or messy bun, simple loose waves, or half-up style. I normally wait a day after washing my hair so it is less slick, allowing clips, bows and bands to stay in place easier. I also rely on bobby pins as hidden “anchors” beneath hair accessories for extra hold.
Headbands are the one item I was always a bit skeptical about. With long, straight, heavy hair, I felt as though I would look like ‘Alice In Wonderland’! But after donning an embellished headband for New Years Eve, I became hooked. The headband added just the right element of glam to my black and white outfit without being too over the top.
