Nothing adds polish to an outfit as quickly as a blazer. I’ve been known to pair them with dresses, sweaters, denim, skirts, leather pants, and more to pull any look together in a crisp, timeless way. Not only do blazers pair with practically anything; they also work for any occasion, from an 8 A.M. meeting to an evening on the town with friends. While I have plenty of classic blazers to choose from in my closet, I’m also always keeping an eye out for new interpretations and styles. Lately, I’ve been most drawn to belted blazers, which boast the same polish as more traditional versions, but with a flattering, modern twist. Especially if it’s not quite time for coats where you live yet, they’re an ideal layer for this in-between season.
After wearing looser pieces throughout my pregnancy, I’ve been enjoying reaching for styles with a defined waistline over the last few weeks. While you could add any belt in your closet over a blazer for a similar waist-cinching look, the elegant, streamlined look of a blazer and belt made from the same fabric is my favorite option. This is especially the case if you opt for a blazer in a bold color or fabric. I love these unique styles in rose, red, olive, and navy satin!
On the weekends, layer a belted blazer over a casual tee and denim to add instant polish to your look. While I’d wear that combination with sneakers for coffee or brunch, changing into chic booties takes it from day to evening in seconds. I also love the look of a belted blazer over a dress, especially with looser styles to create a totally different look. Try them with our Mariah, Agnes, or Sutton dresses…not to mention, the new sweater dresses and holiday styles we’re launching soon! I’d also layer them over a jumpsuit, like our Kierra or Delaney. Just add your favorite heels (try a sleek pump like these or a statement style like these) for a memorable, but always classic, evening look. See below for more of my favorite belted blazers to wear from day to night.
Plaid Blazer
I can’t resist this more playful take of the iconic Veronica Beard blazer that made them famous. The colors of the plaid pair perfectly with both warm fall neutrals and denim.
Satin Tie Blazer
The deep blue satin of this belted blazer is perfect for evening occasions and date nights. Wear it with its coordinating pants for a chic, monochromatic look, or layer it over a cocktail dress.
Scarlet Blazer
For a striking daytime look, pair this red blazer with light-wash denim, a white tee, and sneakers. It would look equally stunning layered over an LBD for an evening out!
