After Venice, we picked up our cars and the official road trip began. Our next destination was Lake Garda but we had plans to stop in Verona for the afternoon, explore a bit, grab lunch and hit the road again. We pulled up to Verona in the late morning and started exploring the ancient city. We had a few must-see spots on our list, but we left everything else up to chance.

 

 

We did a lot of walking in this city! One spot to not miss is Castel San Pietro, which gives you a great panoramic view of Verona with the Ponte Pietra Bridge and Lamberti Tower in the distance. (see above photo on the left)

 

 

The Ponte Pietra Bridge above is over 2000 years old (completed in 100 BC!) and provided access to the Roman Theatre from the city center. I find it absolutely incredible to think about the history that had taken place in the exact spot we were walking. Like so many other cities rich in history, I get lost in my own thoughts while wandering through them.

 

 

We had lunch on the beautiful terrace of Osteria Ponte Pietra Restorante that looks out over the Adige with a perfect view of the Ponte Pietra Bridge. We ordered a few rounds of pasta and rosé and topped the meal off with espressos before heading back out for a bit more walking before we got back on the road again.

 

 

In case you didn’t know or forgot, Verona is the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The above picture on the right is of “Juliet’s House”, the stone building and balcony that inspired Shakespeare to write the famous story. We were planning on visiting and getting a great photo of Rose and I professing our love to one another, but about 500 other people had the same idea as us. It was a mad house, so we only ended up snapping a few pics for the memory books and leaving a little love note on the wall as we left.

 

 

I wore this sweet little Tularosa dress for a full day of exploring. It also comes in a few different styles, here and here as well as a top and skirt version here. I found the dress to run a little big, so I’m wearing an xs (I had originally purchased a small and returned it).
