It’s been a while since I’ve updated you all on skin stuff, and I actually have a bit of a new routine to share, too! I’ll first back track to tell you how I got here. These past fews months have been crazy. Really, this past year has been the busiest year of my life with launching Gal Meets Glam Collection. Things I used to be really great at keeping up- like working out, eating consistently healthy, getting a decent amount of sleep and taking care of my skin- have slacked off. It’s not that I don’t care, I’ve just chosen to put other things as priority, but it all seemed to catch up with me when we got home from France last month. I got home and felt really off and my skin was not happy and breaking out for the first time in a long time. I’d run out of the beauty products I was using when traveling and resorted to using whatever Thomas had until I was able to get to a drug or beauty store. It also didn’t help that we were indulging in all the wonderful sweets and cheese and deliciousness while in Europe (note: I don’t eat like that at home). So when we did get home, I was ready for a refresh. I wanted to get back my energy and clear up my skin.
For the past four weeks I decided to let my skin breathe. I wore makeup maybe 2-4 times, but other than that, I went au natural. And it felt amazing. I can truly say that my skin has never looked or felt better. I’m excited to share some of the beauty products that I’m really loving and think played a huge role, but it goes without saying that diet is also super important. If I’m not eating consistently healthy, I see it first in my skin. I’ve mentioned on IG stories that I love Kelly Leveque and her book “Body Love”, which is all about feeding our bodies the nutrients it needs to feel our absolute best. I love making one of her Fab4 smoothies (one that is packed with fat, fiber, greens and protein) in the morning and it gives me tons of energy to kick start my day. I already felt so much better when we started cooking at home more and added a daily form of exercise (walks, orange theory classes and tennis have been on repeat). Next up, skincare…
I’m terrible at any form of beauty maintenance, I just don’t make the time for them- massages, facials, mani/pedis, hair and all that. Being gone a lot makes it hard to lock down an appointment, but if I’m lucky, I’ll have a day or two when I’m home that I’ll remember to book something. And that’s exactly what I did for my skin. Last year I found Toska Spa in Mount Pleasant after searching for places that used Biologique Recherche, a skincare line I learned about from Georgia Louise in NYC. I had my first facial with Jennifer and loved the results. She did a custom facial, along with their remodeling treatment and it’s truly helped my skin over the past year. She suggested a few BR products for me to use and I added them into my routine, sparingly though, as they are quite expensive and not the most convenient to buy. I love trying new beauty products, so I mixed them here and there with others I was using. My main focus is to always keep moisturized, my skin is on the dry side, so I can never not get enough creams and oils.
Jennifer is who I went to when I got home and was feeling down about my skin. My jaw line had little bumps I just couldn’t get rid of and I had broken out in a small, mild rash around my nose and mouth. Overall, it was subtle, but enough to make me want to fix whatever I was doing. She agreed that my skin was super dry and all of our travel and diet changes were taking their toll. After an hour and half of her magic, my skin was already feeling and looking a million times better. I asked her to fill me up on the goods she suggested I use to get my skin back on track and I’ve been using them all religiously ever since. My dark circles have gone down drastically, the bumps completely gone and my skin has a healthy glow that makes me never want to wear makeup ever again.
These are the skincare products that I’m currently using…
Biologique Recherche Eau Micellaire Biosensible, Biologique Recherche La Grande Creme, Biologique Recherche Lait VIP o2, Biologique Recherche P50 Lotion, Biologique Recherche Le Grand Sérum, Biologique Recherche Crème Masque Vernix, Darphin Lumière Essentielle Cream, Darphin Predermine Densifying Anti-Wrinkle Cream, Darphin Vital Skin
Not every product is right for every person and we all have varying budgets we can and want to spend on things like skincare. That’s why I truly believe the biggest and most inexpensive thing we can do is focus first on the foods that we’re putting into our bodies. We are what we eat. Obviously there are a lot of products that really do help- I totally get all the hype around the Biologique Recherche P50 Lotion now, it really does work wonders! It’s about finding what works best for you and your skin, and also sticking to a routine. Consistently cleansing my face morning and night, making sure all of my makeup is off and I’ve got some good moisturizer and oils on at the start of my day and before bed, make all the difference in the world.
