After living in San Francisco for over four years, we’ve built up quite the list of go-to restaurants or cafes. While our list could go on and on, I’d thought I would focus today’s post on our favorite ‘healthy’ spots around the city. Since I have a few dietary restrictions, it’s always nice knowing there are places where I don’t have to worry about only ordering sides or asking “can you make this but without this, this and this”. Here is our list of our favorites throughout the city, in various neighborhoods, but all with plant-based, gf or organic menus.

Nourish Cafe– This small plant based cafe in the Inner Richmond has quickly become one of our favorites because of their flavorful menu full of delicious goodies. We’ve had pretty much everything from the menu, but we both love the Nourish Bowl, Baker Beach smoothie, any of the toasts and I never leave without one of their power balls.

Seed & Salt- This is probably our most frequented spot since it’s right around the corner from our Marina abode. They have a full plant-based and gluten free menu that’s both satisfying and fulfilling. Unlike grabbing a salad nearby that we could easily make at home, many of the items at Seed & Salt are more complicated/take more time to make (like the chickpea frittata or beet burger), so it feels like we’re getting more by eating out.

As Quoted– This is a semi-new spot in Presidio Heights that we’ll make any excuse to head over to. The menu is all seasonal, local and organic and if you have any dietary restrictions, you’ll be able to find something here. I’m a big fan of the turmeric latte and the almond butter, banana and honey toast.

Basik Acai– I think Thomas eats this at least once or twice a week. He’s an acai bowl addict and they definitely have the best in the city. I always order the Banyan (topped with fresh berries) while Thomas is a fan of the Puna.

Judahlicious– This has been a favorite of ours ever since we moved to the city. It’s located in the Outer Sunset, so we’ll head over on the weekends for brunch followed by a relaxing beach stroll. You can’t miss their gf/vegan waffle or one of their specials (which is what Thomas typically orders).

Little Gem– A newer spot to Hayes Valley that focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients. We love heading over here if we’re in need of a quick lunch or dinner. The menu is simple and delicious and the restaurant itself has a nice ambiance.

Project Juice Test Kitchen– We recently realized that Project Juice, one of our go-to juice spots on Polk, had opened a small location in Hayes Valley where they serve a larger menu beyond just juice. They have a great selection of plant based options that include superfood bowls, gf pastries, smoothies and shakes.

Cafe St. Jorge– Over in Bernal Heights lies this tasty cafe that has the best gf bread I’ve ever had. You can’t go here and not get the avocado toast. It’s a bit of a drive for us, so we don’t go as often as I’d like to, but it’s always worth the trek.

Jane on Fillmore– Another one of our frequent spots. When I’m meeting girlfriends or brands for coffee or lunch, I’ll usually recommend Jane. The menu is big enough so anyone can find something that suits their palette or needs. I almost always get the gf/vegan granola with almond milk and the green smoothie with banana.
