Love is in the air! I don’t know about you, but I think it’s silly to only celebrate love around Valentine’s Day. I’m all for appreciating your significant others all throughout the year, not just on one particular day. However, it’s always a nice excuse to use for a date night, getaway or even just a little love note. Thomas and I usually like to keep things simple with a nice romantic evening out, just the two of us. Even though we’re around each other pretty much all day everyday, I never get sick of spending time with him.
For this year’s Valentine’s Day looks, we kept things classic. I love this simple cocktail dress from Express that’s understated and elegant yet still feels chic for an evening out with my husband. I paired it with black tights and pumps and added a ribbon to a low pony and cat eye to pull the look together. Thomas added this Express blazer over a crisp white dress shirt paired with slim black jeans and dress shoes.
We usually don’t have any crazy plans ahead for Valentine’s Day, but we do always try and follow these rules that make the day stress free and fun:
-Skip the crowded restaurants and do something intimate (even if it’s at home).
-Keep it simple. Don’t overthink or over plan. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
-Instead of gifts, we like experiences (taking a cooking class, going hot air ballooning, taking a trip…).
-Leave your phones behind and be in the moment.
This year we’ll be in NYC for Valentine’s Day, so we decided to celebrate a little early at Farmhouse Inn in Sonoma. It’s one of our favorite getaway spots. We stayed here for our anniversary, which you can see more of in this post. It’s always way more fun to be shooting together (with both of us behind and in front of the camera) since Thomas is constantly cracking jokes and whispering crazy things in my ear, making me laugh uncontrollably.
