Thank you to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.

Since their variety never fails to inspire me, skirts are some of my favorite pieces in my closet to style. Whether I wake up seeking a romantic, whimsical feel, something sleek and sophisticated, or a comfortable and casual outfit, I know I can create any look by artfully pairing different tops and skirts. Most of my skirts are midi-length, as I find them both the most versatile and most suitable for everyday wear. With a selection of solid-colored skirts (like this or this) and printed pieces (like this or this) on hand, the creative styling options are truly unlimited.

I have been loving long white dresses this season, but it has been a while since I wore monochromatic white separates—one of my all-time favorite pairings. I came across this statement collar top by Ganni and instantly knew it would fit seamlessly into my summer wardrobe. To balance the tailored feel with something a little softer, I wore it with a flowy, tiered Ulla Johnson skirt and flat leather sandals (similar to these).

When pairing tops and skirts, I typically opt for blouses in one of two different lengths: hip-length or slightly cropped. The former stays tucked in all day long, eliminating the need to constantly fiddle with my outfit when I’m out and about or playing with Clementine. On the other hand, I also love the look of styles that fall just at or above the waistline of my skirt. To find perfect-length tops, I often need to try out a bunch of different options, since they can fall so differently on different people. I take advantage of Nordstrom’s free shipping and returns to turn my closet into my own personal fitting room, experimenting until I find the pieces that are just right for me. Better yet, when I fall in love with a piece that doesn’t fit exactly right, I can easily take advantage of the alterations credit I receive as part of the Nordy Club. See below for more of my favorite summer tops and skirts to style this season.

Button-Front Top

This slightly cropped top would hit right above the waistline of many skirts, making it perfect for pairing. I love its vintage-inspired cap sleeves and button-up front.

Gingham Skirt

This everyday gingham midi skirt creates a charming summer look, especially when styled with a cap-sleeved top and sandals.

Raffia Crochet Bag

This Pamela Munson shoulder bag combines the classic look of a flap bag with the relaxed feel of raffia, making it the perfect piece to carry all summer long.
