On hot summer days, my go-to outfit is a comfortable dress paired with sneakers or flat sandals. While I love experimenting with different looks too much to ever have a true “uniform,” this may be as close as I get. I’ve found it strikes my perfect balance: representing my personal taste and aesthetic, while also being appropriate for my current season of life.

We often plan a few longer trips this time of year to escape Charleston’s intense heat and humidity, but this summer, we’re staying close to home, as I know many of you are. I’ve been using all of my best tricks for keeping cool and comfortable, since I never want the temperature to keep me from enjoying the outdoors. Short hemlines, light colors, and breathable fabrics make a noticeable difference, so I’m loving this sweet yellow floral mini (which also comes in red). The silhouette is simple and timeless, but the smocked bodice and puffed sleeves add just enough detail to create an effortlessly feminine look.

Even when we are spending most of our time at home, I’m still constantly on the go, playing with Clementine and walking or biking often. I reach for white sneakers almost daily, so I now always keep an eye out for different twists on this classic style. The espadrille detail of this Tretorn pair offers a slightly dressier feel that I love, especially when styled with dresses.
