As soon as I receive an invitation to an event, I begin dreaming up a look that will perfectly complement the setting, occasion, and formality. While this often means starting with a try-on session in my own closet, I also browse my favorite designers and retailers in case I spot any new styles that resonate with me. I’ve been most drawn to printed styles lately, from delicate florals to bolder, global-inspired motifs. Especially for events like weddings, a patterned dress stands out beautifully in the sea of solid-colored styles that people often gravitate toward for formal occasions.  Since spring tends to be the busiest season for special events, I rounded up some of my current favorite dressy pieces, all of which are effortlessly occasion-ready.

Tiered Gown

This Caroline Constance dress makes a statement in a cool blue and white floral print, tiered skirt and puff sleeves. Pair with a simple heeled sandal like this pair from Alexandre Birman and add a natural box clutch like this one from Cult Gaia. Perfect for a day or evening springtime occasion.

Patterned Maxi

The pattern play and adjustable ties in our Gal Meets Glam Collection Geraldine dress makes it a dress for all occasions, from baby showers to engagement parties. Pair with heeled sandals and statement earrings to dress it up, or flat sandals and a headband for a more casual feel.

Embroidered Midi

Johanna Ortiz’s signature balloon sleeves make a bold statement in this embroidered midi dress. The ornate embroidered detail and flattering silhouette would look beautiful with these heeled sandals from Malone Souliers.

To complete the look, I often turn to a few classic staples I always have on hand. Simple, neutral heels like these or timeless earrings like these make styling any dress effortless. On the other hand, pairing unexpected colors and details can add so much personality to an outfit, so if I’m feeling inspired, I’ll experiment with different combinations until I land on one I love. Try this pink floral dress with these floral heels, this blue and white dress with this raffia clutch, or this embroidered dress with these statement mules for a look as memorable as the occasion you’re dressing for.
