For as long as I can remember, I have gravitated toward bows. Few details better epitomize my feminine style, which is why I am especially happy to see bows appearing in so many styles this season! They are usually most prominent as the holidays approach, and for good reason—a perfectly placed bow makes any look feel more festive.
It’s all too easy for bows on apparel to come across as more youthful than sophisticated, unless done extremely tastefully. This sweater, this ruffled blouse, and this velvet dress are a few examples of boldly bow-adorned pieces that incorporate bows in different, but all elegant ways. A few reasons I think they work so beautifully are that the bow details are monochromatic and fit the scale of the piece–a voluminous sweater isn’t overwhelmed by large bows, for example, while a thin tie at the neck feels just right for a silk blouse.
In most cases, I’ll opt for shoes or accessories that feature bows, since I tend to find more options that I love to choose from. Pieces like these slingback flats, these tartan pumps, these velvet heels, and these embellished earrings put a perfectly feminine twist on any look. If you’re as drawn to bow earrings as I am, don’t miss the Bow + Pearl Drop Earrings from our collaboration with Nicola Bathie.
When in doubt, you can never go wrong with a bow in your hair–the most classic way to style this detail. There are so many gorgeous hair accessories in stores right now, so there are plenty of bow pieces to choose from. I have my eye on this velvet barrette, this black satin hair tie, this pearl barrette, and this champagne satin barrette. See more of my current favorite bow pieces below!
