My very first Father’s Day is right around the corner. We will be at the US Open in California with my parents that day, so I’m looking forward to spending time with them before we head off to Europe for Julia’s sisters wedding, and then go back home to settle in before the baby comes. With Baby B’s due date steadily approaching, I’m spending a lot of time reading and researching. I just created a Baby Gear List on Airtable and am tackling each item one by one, and I have a long list of things to assemble for the nursery and around our house before August. Most of all though, I’m trying to mentally and emotionally prepare for the adventure ahead. In one of the many sources of education I’ve gone through on my journey to becoming a dad, I heard something that really stuck with me. I’m so used to putting in longer hours, harder work, and more effort in order to make things happen and to succeed. When it comes to parenthood, though, the challenges often require more patience and compassion, rather than harder work. It’s going to be an adjustment for me, but such a positive one that I can’t wait to experience.
If you’re on the hunt for Father’s Day gifts for the important dads in your life, whether that be your own dad, your husband or significant other, or any number of father figures, I rounded up some of my favorite ideas below. I like to think that as men, we are easily satisfied, so take inspiration from the things they already love or use all of the time. You can’t go wrong with a refresh of basics or a fashionable update to our most-used items. I literally wear my favorite things until they have holes in them, so I always appreciate a new version of something I probably should’ve retired awhile ago.
A Great Pair of Summer Shoes
A Crisp Button-Up Shirt
A Sweet New Accessory
Every single day, I grow more excited to meet Baby B and watch her grow. I can’t wait to spend time as a whole family. For anyone who may be in the same boat as me (perhaps if your significant other showed you this post), I’d like to leave you with my favorite piece of fatherhood advice I’ve heard so far: trust your instincts and don’t overthink things. It’s important to be well-read and prepared, but there’s so much more that you have to learn by doing. Dive in, be involved, and show your family as much love as you possibly can. Happy Father’s Day!
