Looking back through my blog posts and outfits from the past year, I noticed that I’ve gravitated toward the color red this year more than I think I ever have. I’ve always appreciated a “pop of red” accessory or a classic red lip, but this year, I’ve also stocked up on cozy red wardrobe staples, designed a handful of red dresses for Gal Meets Glam Collection (like Ruby, Annabelle, and Stella), and even wore a few bold, all-red looks. Color psychology notes that red exudes strength and confidence, and when I think about the adventures and challenges this year has held for me as a business owner, my leaning towards red in 2018 makes perfect sense. I am generally a confident person, but in the face of the many new experiences we navigated this year, I’m not surprised at all that I was drawn to the boost that came from wearing red.
Now that the holidays are upon us, I’ve been reaching for my favorite red pieces multiple times a week. If you need proof that colors have an impact on our mood, look no further than this time of year, when even one simple red accessory can make an ordinary day feel more joyful. It doesn’t matter whether I’m headed to the office, to a party, or anything in between–it always makes me smile to look down and see this cheery shade as part of my outfit, brightening up even the gloomiest winter day.
Here are a few ways I’ve recently incorporated red winterwear into my style:
Workday Confidence Boost
Like I mentioned, I never shy away from wearing red to work, especially when I have a big day ahead. Pairing my red pants with a blush silk blouse and coat made this overall look feel bold and confident, but still approachable and elegant.
Cozy Date Night
A prime example of a simple look made special by a splash of red, I wore this outfit to my family’s Thanksgiving celebration. I would re-wear it in a heartbeat to a low-key, outdoor date night (preferably involving a fire pit, wine, and s’mores after dinner). Tip: adding a red lip color instantly dresses-up an otherwise casual style.
Polished for a Party
This Tibi full midi skirt has quickly become one of my favorite separates for holiday party outfits. I wore it with a white blouse and bow mules to a daytime event, and love that it could be styled just as easily for a black-tie party.
A Chic Statement
I have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to wear my red Gal Meets Glam Collection Carmen jumpsuit, and when my just-married friend shared the details of her rehearsal dinner, I knew I had the place. With a coordinating coat and pumps, I felt perfectly festive for both the time of year and the excitement of the occasion.
We just enjoyed a wonderful visit to Aspen with AMEX, soaking-up the holiday spirit with a beautiful snow-covered backdrop. I made sure to bring red winterwear pieces to go with the festive activities. If you’re headed somewhere adventurous this winter, you live in a place with cold winters, or you’re thinking of adding a splash of confidence-boosting red to your winter wardrobe, give it a try. A little added red in your winterwear can go a long way!
