By now, you’ve hopefully seen the Gal Meets Glam Collection tweed jackets, skirts and dresses we launched last month, along with new styles that just arrived this week! I am incredibly proud of these pieces–they’re exactly the classic, feminine fall layers I’ve always dreamed of wearing, and based on the feedback we’ve received so far, many of you feel the same way. They’re our first small expansion from the all dresses we launched with back in April. I always knew that I wanted to focus on dresses with the Collection. Having a strong point of view and a set, specific style is what drove me to create the line in the first place, so I wanted our first product that wasn’t a dress to also be 100% me and also an item I could wear with my favorite dresses.
Unlike a dress, which makes for an easy, one-piece outfit, styling a jacket or a skirt takes a little more intention. For an effortlessly polished outfit, each separate in the Collection has at least one matching counterpart (like the Tinsley dress + jacket, the Paige skirt + jacket + dress, and the Brooklyn skirt + jacket). Even if you don’t own the coordinating pieces though, I never want someone to hesitate to throw one of these jackets on before heading out the door, or to enjoy styling their skirt in all different ways. That’s exactly what inspired today’s post–from casual weekend outfits to sophisticated, statement-making combinations, I’d love to share a little bit of inspiration from my own Daily Looks.
With A Blouse & Coat
I recently wore one of our newest pieces, the Katherine skirt, to the office last week. I styled it with an old Miu Miu bow top (on sale here, similar here and here) and coat (similar here and here), along with my black suede knee boots.
With Jeans & Pumps
While in California, I pulled out my Katherine jacket with an old favorite pair of J.Crew jeans, a Vince silk blouse and Chanel pumps (similar here and here for under $100). This jacket is a little less cropped than some of our other styles, making it easier to pair with jeans.
With A Sweater Skirt
I absolutely love the colors of the tweeds we created for the Collection. For a no-fail combination, choose one of the hues that make up the tweed and pair monochromatic separates in that color under your jacket. That’s what I did one day in our New York office, when I wore my Paige jacket over one of my favorite simple sweaters and an ivory pleated midi sweater skirt.
With A Silk Top
The length and pastel hues of the Paige skirt work so well for the office, for weekend outings, and for everything in between. I paired mine with a simple silk Vince top for dinner out with friends–the combination of textures felt elegant and luxurious, and I love the way the blush tweed looked with a warmer color for fall.
With Your Favorite Trousers
I brought out these blush Theory high waisted trousers (last seen here) to go with my Paige jacket for work last week, styled simply with this blush Cuyana top & my go-to scalloped Chloe flats.
With Your Favorite GMG Dress
Whether you need an extra layer as the weather cools down or you simply want to switch up the look of your go-to fall dresses, these jackets can be the perfect finishing touch. For example, I’ve already worn my Tinsley jacket over the cream Celeste dress, which has a neutral, streamlined silhouette that would work beautifully under any jacket. I’ll also wear Tinsley over the Maggie dress, the Paige jacket over the Aria dress, just to name a few.
With Sneakers
This is the exact outfit I put on after we finished photographing the September line–I loved wearing my Tinsley jacket so much during the shoot, I didn’t want to take it off! For an easy, casual outfit, throw your jacket on over your favorite white tee and jeans (high-waisted looks best since the jackets hit right at the waist), slip into sneakers or loafers, and head out for your weekend adventures.
A Silk Skirt
Even on casual days, I frequently opt for skirts or dresses rather than pants. One Saturday evening for a casual dinner, I put on my Tinsley jacket to add the perfect touch of texture to a white tee and silk midi skirt combination. To dress this look down, I rolled up my jacket sleeves and slipped on my favorite Golden Goose sneakers, but I loved knowing I could simply change shoes and unroll the sleeves to take this outfit from daytime to evening in an instant.
With Its Matching Counterpart
All of our separates have a matching counterpart, some even have two- like our Katherine jacket, skirt & dress, our Tinsley jacket and dress, our Paige jacket and skirt and our Nell dress, skirt and jacket. While there are endless ways you can style them with pieces you already have in your closet, matching them with their counterpart is my favorite way!
